Budweiser “Landslide” or “Brokeback Mountain” from the horse’s mouth?
Maybe it was just me but the Budweiser Super Bowl ad below played like a very uncomfortable bestiality version of “Brokeback Mountain,” the astoundingly touching film from director Ang Lee, about two gay cowboys, which made Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams and Jake Gyllenhaal stars and household names.
I was shocked that it didn’t end with the horse at a glue factory and the guy finding a saddle hanging in the barn with his shirt draped over it.
The ad is actually entitled “Brotherhood”–um, ok?–and is being hailed as one of the best ads today. I say it’s the most disturbing. Context and subtext can be a bitch, don’t you know?
Not to mention it’s some twisted Evangelical GOP “give them gays rights and bestiality can’t be far behind” argument.
You didn’t see all that? Look again.
I’m just grateful they used Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” for the music and not Tim McGraw’s “The Cowboy In Me.” I’m just sayin, have you listened to the lyrics of that song carefully enough? Betcha you haven’t.
In any case have another look and see what I saw. Maybe.
