AD MEN: Will the real Michael Phelps for Louis Vuitton please stand up
“Two extraordinary journeys. Just one way to get there.”
It turns out this is the real Louis Vuitton ad featuring Michael Phelps. The more salacious version leaked earlier this week was just that: a salacious but not “official” image.
In the official image, Phelps is out of hot water and dressed, in a 3 piece suit, presumably by Louis Vuitton as well, and lounging on a velvet sofa with Larisa Latynina, the Russian gymnast who previously held the record for most Olympic medals ever. Hence the extraordinary journeys bit from LVMH. Get it?
Sipping tea in this setting is also a far cry from hawking Subway’s grub. Or the earlier, more Kardashian version of himself, which was also shot by Annie Leibovitz.
Doubtful the logo luggage now–or the Subway sandwiches earlier–makes the man– but the clothes, at least, in this tete a tete do make the man a class act.
Gosh, who knew “Two extraordinary journeys. Just one way to get there,” could be mined for so much in one ad campaign?
